Transmission projects

New transmission and network upgrades are essential to power Victoria as coal-fired power closes. They will ensure we can move clean and affordable renewable energy from where it is generated to where it is needed.

Through existing and new projects, we will improve and modernise the grid to meet increasing demand.

Our projects include:

investing $480 million in 12 projects to strengthen the grid
delivering the transmission needed to connect offshore wind energy to the grid
partnering on the delivery of major transmission projects and upgrades.

Current projects

Gippsland offshore wind transmission project

VicGrid is developing the new shared transmission line to connect offshore wind energy generated off the Gippsland coast to Victoria's electricity grid.

Marinus Link

Marinus Link is an undersea and underground transmission line project that will strengthen the connection between the Victorian and Tasmanian electricity networks.

Renewable Development Program – Stage 1 projects

VicGrid is investing in 12 projects across Victoria to strengthen and modernise the grid so more reliable and affordable renewable energy can flow to homes, businesses and vital services.

Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector West (VNI West)

The Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector West (VNI West) is a proposed new high-voltage electricity transmission line connecting Victoria and New South Wales.

Western Renewables Link

The Western Renewables Link (WRL) is a proposed new high-voltage electricity transmission line in Victoria's west which is in the design and approval stage.
