VicGrid has completed a regulatory investment test for transmission (RIT-T) to assess the technical and economic viability of increasing transmission network capacity.
This will address current limitations in the Western Victoria transmission network. It was completed in accordance with the national electricity rules.
Western Renewables Link is in the planning and approvals stage.
Through this RIT-T process, in consultation with industry, government, consumers, and interested stakeholders, a range of options were considered, including:
- minor network augmentations (like installing wind monitoring or undertaking minor transmission line upgrades)
- major network augmentations (such as new or upgraded transmission lines, and/or the installation of equipment)
- non-network options (such as battery storage and/or energy demand management), to increase transmission capacity in the Western Victoria region.
