Transmission connection process

In Victoria, the transmission network is referred to as the declared shared network. It is operated by declared transmission system operators who are also registered as transmission network service providers.

VicGrid manages the connection process and is the main point of contact for connection applicants. Visit our transmission connection process page for a step-by-step guide to connecting to Victoria's transmission network.

Victorian Access Regime

The Victorian Government is setting new rules for how renewable energy projects gain access to the state's transmission network, and deliver community engagement and economic benefits.

Find out more details on the Victorian Access Regime page.

Key connection information

Key connection information (KCI) is required to be published under the National Electricity Rules 3.7F(3). The information is part of a series of changes to the National Electricity Rules to improve the transparency of new generation projects in the National Electricity Market (NEM).

The latest KCI data file is available on the Generation Information page of the AEMO website.

Limits advice

VicGrid is responsible for the calculation of the limit equations as a part of its transmission network service provider role. These limit equations describe the capability of the power system under both system normal and outage conditions.

Register of large generator connections

Under the National Electricity Rules, VicGrid must maintain a register of large generator connections (30 megawatts or greater) connected to the Victorian declared shared network after 13 December 1998.

Transmission connection point forecasts for Victoria

The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) prepared this summary to provide information about its transmission connection point forecasts for Victoria, in line with its previous Victorian declared shared network responsibilities, which transferred to VicGrid on 1 November 2025.
